Newly Appointed Chinese Ambassador Presents Letter of Credence to the President

The new Chinese ambassador to Maldives from China, Mr. Zhang Lizhong has presented his letter of credence to the President of Maldives, Abdul Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

A special function was held in the President’s office on Tuesday Morning where Ambassador Zhang presented his letter of credence to the President of the Maldives.

President Yameen extended greetings from the government and people of Maldives to Chinese President Xi Jinping, his government, and the people of China. The President stressed o the importance of strengthening the friendship between the two countries and expressed gratitude for the Chinese government’s continued aid and assistance in the developmental projects in  Maldives. He further highlighted the major projects proceeding even today under China government aid. China-Maldives friendship bridge and the Velana International Airport development project are two mega-projects funded mostly by the Chinese government.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Wang Lizhong praised the Maldivian government for the progress it has made in the development of the nation. Ambassador Zhang said he was impressed with the development trajectory of Maldives, and the openness towards foreign direct investment for development projects. He assures the President that in his term of service the relation between Maldives and China will further enhance and that China will collaborate closely with the Government of Maldives in the development of Maldives.

The Maldives and China has a long history of friendship going back 45 years. Over the years, Maldives has received the enormous amount of help and assistance by the Chinese Government for the Socio-Economic development of the Maldives.
