President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom sent a message of sympathy to the President of Mexico, His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, after the disastrous earthquake that hit Mexico.
In his message, the President said that he was deeply grieved having heard the devastation and destruction caused by the 8.1 magnitude earthquake. He conveyed sympathies and condolences on his behalf and behalf of the Maldivian people.
“During this time of national distress, the Government and people of the Maldives join me in conveying our deepest sympathies to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Mexico, and in particular, to those who were directly affected by this calamity. We wish the ongoing recovery efforts every success.”
The 8.1 magnitude earthquake that hit Mexico has taken the lives of 61 people at the least and casualties tend to increase. President Enrique Peña Nieto said that this earthquake which was felt by 50 million people, was the largest earthquake Mexico has experienced in 100 years.
