Government Opens Accounts to Raise Funds for Rohingya

The government recently announced that special accounts are open for the donation of funds to aid in the Help Rohingya Campaign which is currently underway throughout the Maldives.

Officials from the Special Committee established to head the Help Rohingya Campaign, said that people can donate money in both Maldivian Rufiyaa and US Dollars to the accounts in either Bank of Maldives (BML) or Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB).

BML account number 7730000160816 can be used to donate funds in USD while account number 7730000160818 is dedicated to receiving funds in MVR. MIB account 901 01 48001218 2001 (USD) and 901 01 48001218 1001 (MVR) will also collect funds which will be sent directly to help the suffering Muslim brothers and sisters of Rohingya.

The Committee at a press conference held this Sunday also said that they will launch a special telethon in affiliation with the media from September 21-23 to boost up the Help Rohingya Campaign. The government has already introduced a special hotline, 1440, which was activated on Sunday for the cause.

The Government of the Maldives condemns the atrocities against Rohingya Muslims and has decided to cease all trade ties with Myanmar until the Government of Myanmar takes considerable measures to prevent and stop the continued suffering by the minority Muslim Community of Rohingya.
