Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed said that Gang violence needs to be stopped at all cost, even if by abolishing any legal barrier which obstructs this process.
Minister Azleen, while speaking regarding the recent wave of gang violence in Male’ City, said that the government and the security forces are on full alert to execute special operations in stopping this
“I assure the public, we will not back down from taking every legal measure necessary, whatever it may be”
Minister Azleen said assuring the public that the government will do everything necessary to bring an end to the gang violence.
He also said that the government along with the Police are working on taking legal action against criminals involved in violent crimes. He said the police will file requests with High Court for tags and MoniCon Orders against 21 individuals on Sunday.
Minister Azleen expressed concern over the sudden spike in violence after a period of calm and urged all Maldivian to give their full backing and support in the investigations.
Numerous stabbings and assaults have been reported the past few days and have resulted in the death of several individuals. Investigations of these cases are already underway. Police officials declared that more than 12 suspects have been arrested in connection to these cases.
