National Policy on Older Persons Inaugurated

During a function organized by the Ministry of Gender and Family, to mark the International Day of Older Persons, Vice President, Abdulla Jihad inaugurated the country’s first National Policy on Older Persons.

The Vice President, speaking during the event held at the Maldives Islamic University, stated that this policy was an administration initiative to protect and promote the rights of the Elderly. Vice president Jihad also stressed on the need for continued support from Government institutions implementing the policy.

In his speech, the Vice President expressed gratitude over the efforts and contributions by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to the policy and all matters related to the elderly.

In his speech, the Vice President Highlighted that the elderly should always be treasured and respected as their experience and expertise created the very foundation of our society. He stressed that even though the youth community will run the country in the future, there is much to learn from the elderly with regard to the best ways in tackling situations in life.
