Maldivian’s Plane Forced into a Crash Landing

Maldives national airline- Maldivian’s seaplane traveling from Niyama Resort of Dhaalu Atoll to Velana International airport was forced into a crash landing in water after encountering unexpected, extreme weather.

The seaplane was almost completely submerged under water after this incident.

Managing Director of Island Aviation, Abdul Haaris confirmed that the incident took place due to unexpected extreme weather and that technical teams along with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) teams are working on bringing the submerged boat afloat.

Officials from MNDF confirms that they received news of such an incident at around 4:22 pm today and that rescue and relief teams are working at the scene even now.

There were 17 people on board at the time of the incident including 14 passengers and 3 crews. All 14 passengers were brought to safety with no injuries while the crews have suffered minor injuries. Hulhumale’ Hospital confirmed that a 24-year old male was brought in connection to this incident and that he is undergoing treatment as of now.
