President and First Lady Attends National Quran Recitation Awards Ceremony

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have attended the 32nd National Quran Recitation Awards ceremony, held at the Islamic Centre this morning.

President Yameen awarded trophies and certificates to the overall first place winners of the competition while First Lady, Madam Fathun presented the trophies and prizes to the first-place winners in different categories of the competition.

President Yameen also presented special awards to the 7 individuals who committed the Quran in its entirety to memory this year.

Speaking at the function, President of the National Center for Quran, Al’Usthaaz Ibrahim Rasheed Moosa expressed gratitude over the continuous efforts put out by President Yameen’s Administration towards the development and enrichment of Quran recitation and other such fields. He also mentioned 24 people have by-heated the Quran in the past 4 years and that the number of people enrolled in learning the Quran by heart has had a significant increase in the recent past.
