President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has said that he does not believe that women should be sidelined and stereotyped into specific roles in a society.
President Yameen, in his address at the closing ceremony of PPM’s symposium for women, “Kanbalunge Mahaasinthaa 2017” mentioned that women are capable of leading and working alongside men in all areas of development and that history has proven how much women can impact societies. He also stressed on the importance of women in the political arena and highlighted that the participants of “Kanbalunge Mahaasinthaa 2017” will hopefully become future leaders in Maldivian Politics.
In his speech the president expressed gratitude over the continuous efforts put on by the first lady and her team towards achieving national harmony and creating a better society. The president said that being able to witness firsthand, the courage and will power of the participants of the symposium gives him strength in continuing his work towards building a better nation.
The President and First Lady along with Members of the Cabinet, Members of the Parliament, and Senior Officials of the Administration were in attendance at the function.
PPM’s Symposium for women, Kanbalunge Mahaasinthaa 2017 was carried out from the 26th to 28th of October 2017 at Dharubaaruge. More than 300 women from all the atolls of Maldives took part in this symposium.
