President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathmath Ibrahim have planned to make an official visit to the People’s Republic of China.
According to the President’s office, the trip is taking place upon the invitation of the President of China, His Excellency Xi Jinping and is scheduled to take place on 6th December 2017.
The President’s office reports that high-level discussions with top government officials and stakeholders of China will take place during the visit, and a number of agreements on bilateral cooperation will be signed.
Maldives and China have an enduring relationship of close and friendly ties and this year marks 45 years of diplomatic relations. The visit is expected to further strengthen the existing partnership for the benefit of both countries.
This is the first state visit of President Yameen to China. The President previously undertook two official visits, in 2015 and in 2014.
