President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has said that the People’s Republic of China is the closest developmental and commercial partner to the Maldives.
Speaking at the official function to mark the occasion of 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives, President Yameen pointed out that the developmental and commercial partnership between the two countries has reached its peak during the recent years and that today, China and Maldives remain as a crucial allies in numerous platforms of development and business.
President Yameen, in his speech, highlighted that the Maldivian Government under his administration considers China to be the closest of friends and that the mutual understanding, respect, and trust between the two countries remain strong through criticism and domestic and international pressures. He also mentioned that China certainly believes that as a nation, the solutions to problems the Maldives faces can only be homegrown; believing in our capability to resolve our domestic affairs.
Throughout his speech President Yameen mentioned that President Xi Jinping’s State Visit to Maldives in 2014, paved the way to a partnership of “future-oriented, all-round friendly, cooperative ties” and that the mega infrastructure projects that are ongoing as of this moment are visual symbols of the discussions and agreements that came along with the aforementioned visit.
He also mentioned that Maldives in this day and age is undergoing a crucial stage of transformation and development in which the people of Maldives especially the youth community needs stable and sustainable opportunities to grow and excel. The President also mentioned that we needed to find new and creative ways to ensure the enhancement of our socio-economic base and development. And in that manner, invited Chinese entrepreneurs to be partners in the Maldives’ developmental journey.
President Yameen expressed his gratitude to President Xi Jinping, the Government and the people of China for their generous assistance towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives.
President Yameen and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim are on a State visit to China in which discussions with high-level officials of the Chinese government will be held. Key agreements in relation to future development and socio-economic projects are to be signed as well.
